Esther,
This statistic is quoted by Tom Stitch in his article From the Margins to the
Mainstream that I believe can be found on the NALD web site.
<<The Digest of Education Statistics for 1998 reported an enrollment of 4.2
million in the adult system of non-credit, non-formal education funded
through the federal government's Division of Adult Education and Literacy>>

Judy Titzel
Providence RI

<< Hi. Does anyone have the latest statistics on how many people in the U.S.
participate in non-formal adult education (ESL, GED, ABE, literacy, etc.)?
I need a ballpark figure that will give people unfamiliar with adult ed an
idea of how widespread it is.

 Thanks,

 Esther
