Executive Director


The Literacy Project is a non-profit, community-based organization offering 
adult basic education services at six sites in Hampshire and Franklin 
Counties of Western Massachusetts.  Seeking an Executive Director to 
provide overall administrative, fiscal and programmatic leadership and 
vision for the agency. S/he is the leader of an administrative team whose 
major responsibilities include: setting the educational and programmatic 
direction for the agency, overseeing administrative, fiscal and site 
operations, supervising and supporting staff, and facilitating program and 
staff development. Responsibilities also include representing the agency in 
the community, working closely with the Board of Directors, managing grants 
from the Massachusetts Department of Education, preparing written 
materials, and facilitating collaborative programming with other agencies.

Qualifications:

Qualifications include experience in education, human services or community 
development, three to five years supervisory and program management 
experience, fiscal management experience, experience facilitating 
collaborative decision-making processes, strong facilitation and 
communication skills, ability to work with diverse groups of people, 
knowledge of participatory management and organizational development, 
knowledge of consensus building, experience developing, implementing, and 
evaluating programs, and a working knowledge of computers. Flexibility and 
ability to make clear and shared decisions are essential.  Salary is 
$40,000 with generous benefits.
