The Atlanta Women's Foundation prints out some interesting statistics. Besides finding them interesting, for the classroom, I think that they can serve as good starting points to introduce either journal topics, or mathematical discussions on the meaning of percentages:
- Only one woman in 10 has a private pension. The average annual income for women over age 60 is less than $60,000.
- Women and children make up 75% of the nation's poor.
- A woman with a college degree earns a median income of $28,000 while a college educated man earns $39,000
- The number one cause of injury to women is battering.
- Less than 6% of all foundation funding goes to women's and girls' programs.
