Re: Choice USA, a reproductive rights advocacy, training and
educational NGO founded by American author and women's rights activist
Gloria Steinem.

Seeks your help in recruiting talented young leaders and activists to
participate in our International Reproductive Rights Fellowship. For
the year 2000 programme, we are recruiting young reproductive health
activists from the following countries: Ethiopia, Sudan, Nigeria,
India, Pakistan, Mexico and the Philippines.

The Fellowship is a six-week leadership-training program based in
Washington, DC. The program is scheduled to begin August 28, 2001 and
will conclude October 09, 2001. It includes workshops on activists
skills in the areas of public policy, lobbying, fundraising,
organizing, public speaking, press relations, and coalition building.
In coalition building, fellows will participate in a program which
provides an overview of U.S. -based NGO work and strategies: an
introduction to the U.S. Congressional and Administrative processes
and how Congress and U.S. agencies impact global reproductive health:
a review of the World Bank and other multilateral development banks
meetings with United Nations officials to understand its operations
and mechanisms to promote reproductive health; and access to strategic
media, polling and funding organizations who are active
internationally. We are seeking individuals with leadership ability, a
commitment to reproductive choice, and demonstrated skills that can
serve them in promoting reproductive rights. Choice USA will arrange
and pay for all travel, food, housing, and transportation expenses for
applicants accepted into the programme.

Applicants must meet the following criteria: 1. Applicants must be
age 18-30; 2. Applicants must have work or activists experience
related to reproductive health, women's rights, or population (from a
direct services or advocacy perspective)

Applicants are required to submit the following information to be
considered for participation: 1. A cover letter, which includes the
applicant's name, address, telephone number (if available), language
abilities, date of birth and job title (if applicable). Only
individual applications please. No group applications will be
accepted.
2. An application essay from the applicant that describes why the
applicant is interested in the Reproductive Rights Fellowship, what he
or she hopes to gain from this experience, and how he or she will use
this knowledge in his or her country.
3. Two letters of reference from a teacher, employer, community
activist or someone else who knows the applicant's ability (letter
from references should include telephone, fax or email contact numbers
for each reference).

Applications are due to the United States by February 28, 2001.
Applicants accepted for the programme will be notified by June 15,
2001.

Please share this memo with organizations and individuals you think
might be interested in our program. Thanks you for your help.
