AlphaPlus Centre is committed to provide culturally and linguistically relevant
services to its constituents in the adult literacy and language training fields
throughout Ontario, so that resource needs within the Francophone, Anglophone,
Deaf and Native service streams are equitably met.

Position Title:          Information Resources Officer 2
                    Information Resources Team
                    Salary: $23.21 -  $24.18


As a member of the Information Resources Team, reporting to the Team Manager,
the incumbent will be responsible for:

Collection development in assigned areas;
Providing information, reference and collections advisory services;
Coordinating assigned areas of information and collections operations;
Promoting client awareness and use of information and resource materials; and
Participating in the conduct of special projects.






ACTIVITIES:

Ø    Provides collection development and collection management:

Ø    Provides information, reference, and collections advisory services:

Ø    Promoting client awareness and use of information materials and resources:

Ø    Coordinating assigned areas of information services and collections
operations:

Ø    Participates in the conduct of special projects carried out by the
organization:

Ø    Research services: Participates in the development of research services


Qualifications:

A post-graduate degree in library and/or information science from an accredited
library school or equivalent education and experience acceptable to the
organization

Proven experience in reference, information, research, and referral services in
a special library and/or public library environment

Experience in collection development and collection management

Demonstrated subject knowledge in adult literacy and/or second language training

Computer literacy including e-mail and wordprocessing (WordPerfect) in a Windows
environment, electronic conferencing, demonstrated experience with on-line
database searching and Internet searching

Excellent oral and written communication skills in French and English

Proven ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with
colleagues and clients

Physical stamina consistent with handling quantities of materials for shelving
and shipping and materials/equipment for outreach activities (workshops,
displays, etc.)

Willingness to work extended periods for outreach, including travel and weekend
and evening work as required.




Desired:

Experience working with Native communities in Ontario and/or ability to speak a
Native language

Experience working with the Deaf community and/or knowledge of ASL (American
Sign Language)
