According to Reading Today (Feb/March 2001), the report states that women's literacy rates have increased over the past 30 years, and in the Arab countries, the percentage of women who are literate has more than tripled. HOWEVER, nearly 2/3 of the world's 876 million illiterates are still women. In South Asia, and the Arab countries the rate of literacy for women, is below 50%!
