We hope you will consider writing something for inclusion in one of these special issues. We are particularly interested in making sure that the voices of advocates and women who are or were in conflict with the law are included in these special issues. Papers for the special issues may be written from a variety of disciplines including psychology, philosophy, cultural studies, sociology, anthropology, criminology, and activism/advocacy. Submissions may be empirically based (but do not need to be), and themes may include (but are not limited to): domestic violence and sexual assault, women in prison, criminalization of women's behavior, and/or historical as well as cross-cultural analyses. Book reviews and research/activist notes are also welcome. We are particularly seeking papers that include experiences of communities of color and other marginalized groups. We know how difficult it can be for many advocates to find the time to write articles and that the prospect of writing an article can feel quite daunting. We also know that there are many advocates out there doing great work with battered women who have used force and thinking about women’'s use of force (especially battered women's use of force). We think it would be great if you could share your information and ideas with others in the field. If you have already written about women’'s use of force and want to submit your paper, please do so. But if you have are thinking about what you might want to write and are not sure if it is what we are looking for (although it probably is!), or if think you would like some help with developing your paper, we would be happy to talk with you. In our general call for papers, we are asking authors to submit three copies of their manuscript by November 15th. But we are also willing to talk with potential authors as they are developing their papers. Violence Against Women is a peer-reviewed journal; this means that papers under consideration for inclusion will be sent out for review by others in the field. Your paper will go through this process but, if you would wish, we are willing to work with you prior to of sending out your paper for review. Unfortunately, not every paper that is submitted will be published. Manuscripts should not exceed 30 double-spaced pages, including tables and references. Authors should send three copies of their manuscripts to: Shamita Das Dasgupta, Ph.D., DVS 7 Fletcher Drive Montville, NJ 07045-9680 E-mail: shamitadas@hotmail.com Deadline for submissions: November 15, 2001 If you want to talk about the possibility of writing a paper or if you need more information, please feel free to contact either Shamita, Andrea or me. Shamita’'s phone number is: 973/334-7356.
