An Invitation to be a Partner/Presenter

Lifelong Learning and Social Development

Kerala, India, August 12-14, 2002

The Background. At the gathering in Beijing from July 1-3, 2001, of 250 professionals from 42 nations, a proposal was made to organize a conference on, “Lifelong Learning and Social Development” in 2002. The state of Kerala in India will serve as the venue and the background for the conference. The performance of Kerala in development is unique. Life expectancy is over 70 years, 100% of the people are literate and its living standards are high even with low industrialization! There is a lot to learn from the Kerala example as well as from other success models, grassroots-level activities and contributions of adult educators and researchers.

The goals of the gathering are to stimulate a dialogue and learn about the concept of lifelong learning and social development; to review its practice in different parts of the world in education, health, and human services; to identify innovations in policy and best practices in improving the quality of life; and to share findings. The objective is to create room for practitioners, planners, students and researchers to share ideas and experiences. Please join your colleagues from other parts of the world. The conference is jointly organized by several institutions including AAACE, AACE, EU, NASW, UNESCO IE, VOX (Norway) etc.

Call for presenters. You are invited to send a one-page proposal for presenting at the conference. Include your name, address, email address and the title and description. Mail proposals to Ms. Cle Anderson, AAACE, 4380 Forbes Blvd., Lanham, MD 20706, USA. Or fax it to her at 301/918-1846 or forward it to discovryjourney@msn.com

A study visit organized in conjunction with the conference is scheduled form Aug. 2-16. Please join the study visit along with some of your students. For details on this as well as on a study visit to CHINA, visit http://www.discover-india.com
