I think that alerts such as these are great catalysts and motivators for adult and young adult learners to learn about how our government works and the role they can take in making their voices heard.
In this particular instance, calling/emailing/writing to congressional representatives, and leaders of women's groups would be a great way to get people started. A whole unit can be developed around this-from finding contact information on the WEB, to reading about how decisions like these get put into action, to writing letters of protest.

I personally do not think that this administration would be nearly as
concerned for the women in Afghanistan if it were not one of the issues
being used to make a war seem more legitimate. This Heritage Foundation
information infuriates me. This group keeps popping up in matters that
involve people loosing their rights. Any suggestions? I know that I have a
whole group of women & teens who will want to do something. -----Original
