Today is the 4th month since 9/11. A few months ago, we had quite a spirited listserv conversation about 9/11 and the aftermath and I was wondering how everyone is doing/managing/coping... What kinds, if any, conversations are you hearing in the classrooms, hallways, bathrooms, locker rooms? Are people generally satisfied with things or is there some unrest?
For my part, I think I am still in shock. However, the shock has taken on a different focus. Now the shock comes from our country's willingness to disregard the very rights and freedoms that we so proudly boast to the rest of the world. For example, I am in shock over the fact that we are detaining people for months without a specific charge. I wonder if any of this has come up in your classrooms-how does this get explained in an ESL classroom?
Anyone with ideas/thoughts????????
Daphne
