Mev and Ujwala,
The night McCain won the NH primary I was so energized I stayed up until
10:00. I was sleeping on the sofa, had just had a foot operation, felt
mournful, and by 8:30 had decided to pack it in. (I have a friend in Arizona
who thought it hilarious that McCain could be considered a liberal in the
Northeast.) My antipathy to Bush started out as being entirely visceral,
then it became his programs; I was able to give up the visceral. I wish
with all my heart that the president of the US would choose other paths. I
wish he would put money into USAID which used to be a major funnel for
overseas programs like health and education. I wish somebody would notice
that there is a linkage between the programs here that are not funded and the
programs overseas that are not funded--don't do it for ourselves, don't do it
for others. What was it, a month to start the war in Afghanistan? AND WE
CAN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO GET EVERYBODY IN THE COUNTRY INSURED? AND EDUCATED?
I want renewable energy, and a beautiful environment, babies who thrive,
homes for everyone.... The only person I see on the horizon is...Kennedy?
One guy! Who else should I watch?
Patriotism? I have flown a flag in a little holder next to my front door for
years. In my neighborhood I am conspicuously deviant....I don't like to
offend people, it's so often impolitic, but I must say there are a lot of
government people who sure offend ME.
