A very small example. suppose you want to assess word attack/word analysis. One teacher I observed used a teacher's roll call sheet. This is an assessment, and also an assessment from the real world--"realia." First and last names. Tape record assessment. Listen to it afterwards for miscues. There is all the difference in the world between getting behind someone's eyeballs and understanding the world through their lenses, or presenting a standardized test, the world from many others' viewpoints.
