I'm glad this thread kept active until I was able to get the web sites
tracked down! There are two pieces of software that I use and love.

The first is "Lectra," developed in France. It is shareware, cheap and
very friendly. It uses text you type in, (I use students' own writing,
and easy books I have on hand) and develops many different excercises from
each passage--different kinds of cloze exercises, speed reading,
sequencing, word recognition, etc.

To download a free trial version, either of these sites will do:

http://www.softpile.com/Education/Language/Review_05625_index.html
OR
http://www.lectramini.com/lectra.htm   (This is the developer's site;
language is French, but a button will get you the "Version anglais.")

The other program I use is VALGETAL (Dutch for "falling numbers). It is
the best program I've seen for practising whole number facts. Students
have to keep three or four different questions in their mind while they
strategize the best placement of the falling numbers. Starts at a dead
easy pace for even my most basic students and goes to a level 20 which I
had trouble with myself. Students like it. The site also offers a couple
of other math games which I have tried, but I liked them less than the
original VALGETAL. Download a free trial version at:
