In response to my query about appropriate books that cover LGBT
issues/characters and are written between the 2nd and 7th grade reading
levels, Mev responded and for some reason her posting did not come
through the listserv. So she asked me to post it for her. This is what
she wrote:

Well, since you've asked...

The answer is basically "not that I'm aware of." Most of what I have
found at that reading "level" is focused towards teens (e.g. Love Rules
and What if Someone I know Is Gay). Pat Parker's book of poetry might
fit at this level as well. The complete references can be found on the
WE LEARN website:
another source of titles does come to mind though -- that include some
children's book with glbt parents. I created a list for the feminist
bookstore I have worked for (Amazon Bookstore Cooperative in
Minneapolis). You can find that list at:
http://www.amazonbookstorecoop.com/glbteduc.html
it was designed for teachers and parents and has books on it for youth
and children - some of which may be of interest and reading level for
adult literacy students.
Let me know if this helps.
Mev
