The class that I am describing is part of a research project. The research project utilizes a scientifically evidence based methodology, and therefore, the teachers are required to "stick resolutely to the lesson plan." Although, I can't do anything about it in this particular study, I think that various questions such as the ones that I am raising come up in every day practice and they deserve discussion about what we as practitioners can do.
