I agree, but it's not that simple. She's on an HMO. Do they have a
straightforward test for that? Or is it just counseling? She says she went
to a counselor and everything is okay now, and this year will be better. We
can't tell whether she's telling us the truth or not.

   Have you considered having your student tested for Seasonal Affective
Disorder (SAD).  Perhaps SAD is contributing to her problems...
