HMO stands for Health Maintenance Organization. HMOs are physician group practices usually with lots of prevention approaches available. They usually include psychiatric and psychological diagnoses and treatment. The diagnoses of SAD usually involves a long consultation and alot of trial and error. Depending on what the diagnosis is, she could get medication, advice on nutrition and how to get maximum benefit from whatever sun shine is available etc. I used to work in the area of mental health and substance abuse and am feeling alarm bells going off. In terms of advising a student, I wonder where an instructor would draw the line between being supportive and invasion of privacy.
