In a message, Bertie replied in part:

"This is a very interesting and useful discussion. I
wondered if education psychologists should be
challenged to come up with simpler and less expensive
diagnostic tools to ascertain the learners who are
visual or auditory..."

In the Ohio ABLE programs and in local community literacy programs, they use
a diagnostic screening tool called
³PowerPath to Basic Skills². It is the only relatively in-expensive tool
that can identify learning differences and through a software scoring
system, help the teacher and learner design effective learning interventions
and accommodations based upon reliable screening information.

In addition, ³PowerPath to Basic Skills² is used in a number of states
around the nation in Literacy programs, community colleges and TANIF
settings. It is probably the only screening tool with 25 plus years of
field testing and validation available. It also has a high correlation to
scores that more expensive clinical assessments (such as the Woodcock
Johnson) give.

It may be worth checking out. They have a website at www.powerpath.com for
those on the list who are interested.
