Sorry to be so long delayed in answering the query about the
conference. Tis is a hasty note as I am on my way out of town. More
details will be available n the next WE LEARN newsletter due at the end
of the month.

However, preliminary reports are quite positive. We've received a
number of email expressing congratulations & kind words about the
success of the conference. Other than some logistical issues with
stuffy rooms, the overall evaluations were very positive and
supportive. Barbara Neely was compelling as she talked about literacy,
literacy and women's power and the connections to social change. It set
a very hopeful and urgent tone to encourage participants on with their
work of supporting women's literacy. The workshops were incredible in
their quality as well.

the numbers?? we had 93 participants in the end! of those, 11 were
adult learners and 7 were graduate students. we had a good cross
section from people in various places in the
field...GED/ABE/ESOL/workplace/teachers, tutors, librarians etc....more
detailed number will follow in the newsletter.

thanks for asking -- now - everyone remember to write for the special
issue of The Change agent on women & literacy. for more details go to:

cheers.
