Important Position Opening at AERA: Director of Social Justice Sought 

The American Educational Research Association seeks a Director of
Social 
Justice to join the staff of the Association to advance and facilitate
the 
social justice mission of AERA. The Director will lead, promote, 
coordinate, and support activities that advance equity and diversity in

education research and within the AERA. A key activity of the Director
is 
to direct and manage initiatives/activities related to enhancing equity
in 
research support and training (e.g., the AERA/IES postdoctoral
fellowship 
program) and to ensuring a diverse and well-trained talent pool of 
researchers through AERA's professional development activities. The 
Director's responsibilities include the conceptualization of projects
and 
proposals; the development of funding sources; the identification of 
essential collaborations and liaison relationships; the implementation
and 
administration of program plans; and the representation of AERA at 
conferences, meetings, and related activities with members, government

agencies, foundations, academic institutions, and other organizations
on 
issues and initiatives pertaining to social justice in education
research 
and the education research profession. 

The Association seeks a candidate experienced in education research
with a 
strong background and commitment to advancing diversity and to building
a 
diverse talent pool of researchers. Candidates with social justice
experience 
and expertise seeking to play a leadership role in the development of
education 
research as a field are encouraged to apply. This new position within
the 
Central Office in Washington, D.C. is open to applicants seeking a new

professional opportunity or experience at the national level, including

candidates interested in a taking leave from an academic or research
position 
for two or more years.  This position is available as early as January
2005. 


Qualifications include a Doctorate degree; five or more years'
experience 
working in a higher education environment or other relevant
organizational 
setting; strong research background; and sensitivity to, and
comprehension 
of research and professional issues relating to equity and social
justice.
