Janet Dear Friends and Colleagues, I'm writing to let you know about a special conference being planned by the Healing Story Alliance. HEALING THROUGH STORY (www.healingstory.org) is for those who love story and want to expand and deepen their use of story within health care, mental health, end of life and palliative care, spiritual care, community building, and healing arts practices. The conference, which will be in Minneapolis, Minnesota, from February 25 - 27, 2004, will provide opportunities to investigate and explore the use of story in healing; gather and share experiences with others using story within their healing work; and develop practical skills in evoking, gathering, telling, and listening to stories. I will be presenting on various models from across the U.S. for using digital storytelling and digital media in the context of promoting healing from and organizing against violence. Here are just a few of the workshop titles: Truth-telling and Forgiveness: Story, Culture, and Change Transforming Community Trauma (NY - 9/11) with Story Risking Peace River's Edge Playback Theatre Helping Young Tellers Promote Peace The Story of a Lifetime Project - Community Storytelling with Visual Storyboards and Oral Storytelling by Elders Additional information about the conference is below. Most of the outreach is being done via word of mouth, due to lack of huge amounts of funding. Please help spread the word by sharing this invitation with others who you think might be interested!
