This Web site feature begins by asking the question, "What is distance learning?" In its simplest form, distance learning is the concept of a student and instructor, separated by time and distance, using technology to complete the instruction. But can it mean more than that? Would a single mother working full-time and taking online courses to complete an Associates degree describe distance learning and the opportunities it affords in the same manner? That's where we need your help. How would you define distance learning? As an innovator and leader in education, we invite you to answer this question for the PBS Distance Learning Week Web site! We know that you have a very busy schedule, but we assure you that participating requires very little time and effort. If you agree to participate, all that we would require from you would be your answer to the question and a photo. Please note, the photo is not necessary for participation, but we find it adds a personal touch. We would need both items by Wednesday, February 23rd, for posting on the Web site during the week of February 28 - March 3, 2000. We understand that this is a tight deadline, and we appreciate your time and consideration of our request. If you have any questions, please contact me at 703-739-8694 or via e-mail at pwoods@pbs.org. Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to offer and we look forward to hearing from you. ******************************************* Tonyea Tharpe PBS LiteracyLink 1320 Braddock Place Alexandria, VA 22314 Tel: 703-739-5131 Fax: 703-739-8495 email: ttharpe@pbs.org website: www.pbs.org/literacy
