Dear NIFL -Workplace Subscribers, since there has been so much talk about
assessment tools, I thought I would share with you some of the resources
that I have accessed in this area.

A review of the TABE, ABLE and six other tests in presented in a report on
assessment and testing by Tom Stitch at
http://www.nald.ca/fulltext/sticht/testing/cover.htm

There was also a document written by Kathryn Baker called "Comparing Work
Skills Analysis Tools" published in March 1998. This document looks at:
Advance Skill Command, PBAS, SSMS, Skill View Power Builder, Work Keys,
Essential Skills Profile, CASAS, and WSS.

If you use CASAS or Work Keys a document was written called "Extending the
Ladder: From CASAS to Work Keys Assessments. This document was written by
The American College Testing Program. (1997)

Maurice Taylor also published a document called Test Review: Workplace
Assessment Tools in April 1997. It is available at
http://www.nald.ca/nls/inpub/test/English/cover.htm. This document
features: TABE, TALS, BEST, CAAT, MRA, WRAT, MSA. He wrote another one also
called "Workplace Literacy Assessment Tools" it is located at:
http://www.nald.ca/fulltext/report4/rep36-40/rep36-01.htm

If you are not into Standardized tests, Gail Dyer wrote a good publication
called "Alternative Assessment Methodologies for Workplace Education
Programs. (1993)

Pennsylvania ABLE sponsored a document called Testing and Assessment in the
Commonwealth of PA written in June 1991 by David Fluke. This examined TALS,
CASAS, ABLE, SORT, TABE, Woodcock and Johnson, WRAT, Series Tests, AL
Employment Related Tasks, and others.
