Hello!

In response to Heidi's plea for introductions, etc., I'll tell you a little
about myself...

I am new to this list, but not so new to workplace literacy. During the
latter part of the '90s I spent some time in the Workplace Literacy division
of Adult Education in the province of Nova Scotia (Canada). I worked mostly
in Nursing homes/Extended Care facilities around metro Halifax, instructing
[usually] small classes of employees in GED and more basic literacy skills.
It was a great job -- I enjoyed the teaching and the learner audience.
Although the focus of the program was to enable employees to get their GED,
we were given a fair bit of latitude and were able to address areas of
interest, employability issues, and general functional literacy.

Now my family and I have moved to the province of BC, and I am employed in
curriculum design and adult basic education in a small community (2 year)
college. One of our recent projects has involved curriculum development for
workers in a local pulp mill, so my interest in workplace literacy has been
rekindled.

My special interests are in supporting various types of distance learning,
and in developing computer literacy in older workers.
