A couple of years ago, when we were piloting this project, the website somehow became "public" and I received over 300 inquiries -- about 200 of them from potential students. That's when we discovered just how difficult it would be to offer the service to out-of-province students at a cost they could afford (ie. without government subsidy). We are a small community college and we are just not set up for this. As an aside, I have had a number of workplace students study for their GED over the internet this way. They either use their own computer station at work (if they have one) or their supervisor provides access to his/her computer after hours. It seems to work best if 1) the supervisor is aware and supportive of what the employee is trying to do and 2) if the online tutor provides lots of friendly, prompt email feedback. No big surprises there! How many people inquired about your on-line GED service?
