The National Institute for Literacy's LINCS section called
NewsFlashes is updated on Fridays. The NewsFlashes covers News from
Thursday Notes, Ed Initative, from major print and on line news
media, sometimes news about local or state programs or adult learner
achievements, technology literacy, and also international literacy
related issues. Please look at the NewsFlashes site at:
		http://www.nifl.gov/lincs/whats_new/flash_1_2000.html

Here are three examples of the types of information you can find in
Newsflashes:

1. Jennifer Cromley's Literacy Leader Fellowship Project on Learning
Styles, "Learning to Think: Advances in Cognitive Psychology for
Adult Literacy" (98-99), is now available online in pdf format. To
view the report, go to:

http://www.nifl.gov/nifl/fellowship/cromley_report.pdf

2. "Research Reports from the National Research & Development Centers" links
to 600+ research reports on education issues from 12 national research &
development centers funded by OERI. Reports are often available here before
appearing in print. http://research.cse.ucla.edu/

3. "Vocational Education in the U.S.: Toward the Year 2000" examines
the size of the vocational education enterprise at the secondary &
postsecondary levels & whether it is growing, shrinking, or holding
constant over time. The report presents findings about the academic
preparation of high school students who participate in vocational
education, relevant school reform efforts, & transitions after high
school. It also describes economic & labor market trends & their
implications for vocational programs, as well as changing workplace
practices & employer perspectives on worker skills & proficiency.
