Dear subscribers,

Although two subscribers have recently suggested that a subgroup be
created to discuss "workplace literacy", that is the intent of the
existing list.

I am delighted that this conversation is taking place and hope that
it continues. It seems that the differences between "educators" from
adult basic education and "trainers" from industry are often both
philosophical and practical -- and both impact the nature of learning
in the workplace -- be it either learning how to do a specific job or
developing broader work-related or personally useful foundation
skills. Discussion around these differences should be useful to
everyone subscribed to the list.

Are there aspects of "education" and "training" philosophy and
instructional methods that can be integrated to better serve both
employers and workers?
