Dear Colleagues,

We are pleased to announce that the U.S. Department of Education, Office of
Vocational and Adult Education (OVAE) has awarded the new Professional
Development 2000 (PRO-NET 2000) contract to the Pelavin Research Center of
the American Institutes for Research. Attached is a Project Abstract
detailing the objectives of PRO-NET 2000. 

In addition, we would like to make those in the field of adult education
aware of a PRO-NET publication entitled " Instructor Competencies and
Performance Indicators for the Improvement of Adult Education Programs" now
available on the world wide web at http://www.air.org/nrs/pubs.htm.  This
document was developed through a field-based process utilizing extensive
input from adult education instructors, program administrators, and learners
from across the country. The competencies are divided into six categories
and are linked to performance indicators. The publication outlines why
competencies are important and how competencies may be used to improve
instruction.
