Dear subscribers,

The following audio conferences certainly sound interesting.
Apparently, they cost $14.50 per conference (either taped or live).
If live, you also have to pay your long distance telephone fees.
Check the web site listed in the message for additional information.

The Center for Law and Social Policy (CLASP) is announcing a new
series of audio conferences, "Low Wages in the New Economy:
Implications for
Families." The audio conferences will be held on Fridays (and
occasional Wednesdays) from 12:30 to 1:30 pm (EST), beginning
February 9, 2001 through Dec. 7, 2001.

A brochure and registration forms can be found at:
http://www.clasp.org/audioconference/brochure.html. To register by
creditvcard, visit http://www.shop-clasp.org.

Among the topics covered are...

* The status of child poverty in the U.S.,
* New strategies for food stamps, children's health insurance, child
support, and housing,
* The future of universal Pre-K,
* Emerging lessons from the states on the impact of the New Economy
on families,
* The impact of work/welfare programs on families
* The fate of diverted teen parents, and
* Key issues surrounding the reauthorization of PRWORA in 2002.

Guest speakers will include politicians and policy makers, such as
Sen. Zell Miller of Georgia, Gov. Gary Locke of Washington,
California State Assembly member Dion Aroner, and Nashville Mayor
Bill Purcell, as well as research and policy experts, including
Marian Wright Edelman of the Children's Defense Fund, David Ellwood,
from the Kennedy School of Government at Harvard, and Rebecca Blank
of the Ford School of Public Policy at the University of Michigan.
Other guests include front line workers, agency officials, and other
experts.

These audio conferences typically include 300-1,000 listeners who
"tune in" for this lively "talk show." This new series will be
particularly informative in laying out some of the key issues for
low-income children and families in time for consideration of welfare
reauthorization in 2002.

You can save yourself time and money by signing up for the entire
series. If you sign up for all 13 audio conferences or tapes (if you
can't listen live), you get lucky by saving yourself $15!

Please contact Janellen Duffy at jduffy@clasp.org for questions.
