D’Amico currently serves as Executive Director for Workforce, Economic and Community Development at the college and as a Senior Adjunct Fellow with the Hudson Institute’s Workforce Stability Institute. Previously, Dr. D’Amico was a policy and planning specialist for the Indiana Department of Education and served as a program analyst for the Indiana General Assembly. She holds an Ed.D in Leadership and Policy from Indiana University and an MA in Adult Education and Organizational Development, also from that institution. This legislation, a comprehensive reauthorization of the federal Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, reflects President Bush's efforts to close the achievement gap between disadvantaged students and their peers and to work with States to help make America's schools the world ’s best. Neuman to Head ED’s K-12 Office The White House announced last week that the President will nominate Susan B. Neuman to serve as Assistant Secretary of Education for Elementary and Secondary Education. This post is responsible for management and leadership of K-12 programs and services in the Department. Neuman’s current job is Director of the Center for the improvement of Early Reading Achievement at the University of Michigan. She has taught at a number of other institutions, including Yale University. Her expertise in reading is expected to make a strong contribution to the President’s No Child Left Behind plan. 70 State Adult Education Leaders Meet with DAEL More than one hundred participants, including 70 State Directors of adult education and state staff, join OVAE’s Division of Adult Education and Literacy (DAEL) for our annual meeting March 28-30 in Memphis. The agenda includes hearing from international resources Albert Tuijnman, director of the Institute of International Education in Stockholm and Tom Sticht, president of Applied Behavioral and Cognitive Sciences.
