Interesting that you would make an open and shut statement like that. Besides the positive residual effects that a community receives from having its constituents possess a higher skill level, lets remember that many of the taxes which support the funding streams and grants received by the not for profit institutions are paid by profit making businesses. Possibly a better direction to take would be a shared funding formula that benefits each of the stakeholders (not for profit institution, profit making business, employee, and citizen). I am a union representative who administers educational and training opportunities for my membership. Regardless of my altruistic beliefs, I have come to learn that maintaining a profitable business is one method of assuring my membership some means of job security.
