Subject: A Revolutionary New Literacy Assessment - Phase II Research Study -
Fall 2001

Educational Testing Service, the premier non-profit private educational
testing and measurement organization and a world leader in educational
research, needs your help to conduct the second phase of pilot testing of a
revolutionary new literacy assessment.

ETSŪ Literacy Services is in need of ABE and Literacy Programs that would be
willing to administer the assessment to your learners/clients and provide
the results back to us so that we can calibrate the items and finalize the
assessment.

The assessment is computer delivered and self-scoring. Literacy proficiency
is measured in the three aspects of literacy used in the National Adult
Literacy Survey (NALS): Prose literacy, Document literacy, and Quantitative
literacy.

Program sites that are interested in participating in this study should
contact Tony Ostrander, Operations Manager for ETSŪ Literacy
Services at (609) 734-1445 between 7:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. ET. We are
looking to begin this phase of the study in early to mid September 2001 and
to conclude the study in mid October 2001.

Sites participating in the study will receive free copies of the final
software product to conduct the assessment, 2 free assessments for every one
completed assessment in the study, plus US$200 honorarium payment either to
the program or the site administrator.

Minimum hardware and software requirements for participating in the study
are:

	1. PC's running Windows 95, 98, or NT with a minimum of 16 MB of
RAM
	2.	17" monitor preferred (although a 15" monitor will suffice)
capable of color at 256 and screen resolution of 1024x768
	3.	Sound card with headphones (preferred) or speakers
	4.	CD-ROM Drive
	5.	Internet connection or a floppy disk drive to accommodate a
3.5" floppy disk.

A special note to Phase I participants:

Our sincere thanks for your excellent work and we welcome and encourage you
to contact us if you wish to participate in Phase II of the study.
