For release/posting - August 14, 2001 Subject: A Revolutionary New Literacy Assessment - Phase II Research Study - Fall 2001 Educational Testing Service, the premier non-profit private educational testing and measurement organization and a world leader in educational research, needs your help to conduct the second phase of pilot testing of a revolutionary new literacy assessment. ETSŪ Literacy Services is in need of ABE and Literacy Programs that would be willing to administer the assessment to your learners/clients and provide the results back to us so that we can calibrate the items and finalize the assessment. The assessment is computer delivered and self-scoring. Literacy proficiency is measured in the three aspects of literacy used in the National Adult Literacy Survey (NALS): Prose literacy, Document literacy, and Quantitative literacy. Program sites that are interested in participating in this study should contact Tony Ostrander, Operations Manager for ETSŪ Literacy Services at (609) 734-1445 between 7:30 A.M. and 3:30 P.M. ET. We are looking to begin this phase of the study in early to mid September 2001 and to conclude the study in mid October 2001. Sites participating in the study will receive free copies of the final software product to conduct the assessment, 2 free assessments for every one completed assessment in the study, plus US$200 honorarium payment either to the program or the site administrator. Minimum hardware and software requirements for participating in the study are: 1. PC's running Windows 95, 98, or NT with a minimum of 16 MB of RAM 2. 17" monitor preferred (although a 15" monitor will suffice) capable of color at 256 and screen resolution of 1024x768 3. Sound card with headphones (preferred) or speakers 4. CD-ROM Drive 5. Internet connection or a floppy disk drive to accommodate a 3.5" floppy disk.
