Nevada showed the fastest population growth during that period, followed by AZ and CO. Nevada has been the fastest growing state for the past 15 years. The South had the biggest increase in population since Census 2000, but the West had the highest growth rate. On the down side, ND and WV experienced the largest population declines. GED is Free 'Til June in KY The Kentucky Council on Postsecondary Education recently approved a $350,000 allocation to give KY test takers a $30 GED test fee waiver through June, 2002. Payments go to testing centers statewide. The funding follows the success of the Jefferson County (KY) Public Schools' (JCPS') Adult Education Free GED Testing Campaign. It removed financial barriers for more than 1,500 test takers in the last quarter of 2001 who wanted to take the GED before the new version was implemented on January 1, but needed help with costs. Local partners shared expenses. KentuckianaWorks (the local Workforce Investment Board) and Louisville Free Public Library paid test and materials expenses or publicity costs for the campaign. JCPS Adult and Continuing Education provided free instruction and practice tests. Local unions provided free lunches for GED testers. More than two thirds of the test takers said they were influenced to take the test because it was free.
