Peggy is not subscribed to this, to the best of my knowledge; however, I will forward your question and let subscribers know her response. >We haven't been able to access appropriate materials to teach parenting >skills to non-reading adults (except for the Head Start/Even Start >materials.) Would you be willing to share anything you have? Although I have not kept up with adult literacy/education publishers' materials, I would think that publishers, such as Steck-Vaughn and New Readers Press, would have some materials available on parenting for adults with limited literacy. You might also want to post your request for materials/ideas to the nifl-family discussion list. You could also search the NIFL family literacy special collection or do a search of the LINCS materials for ideas. Of course, other organizations, nationally, produce parent education materials, too. They may not be easily readable; however, they might be adapted and used. If you need assistance in doing any of these, please let me know. The materials that would be available via NICHD would be research articles and summaries rather than instructional materials. Perhaps as a result of the research solicitation will eventually result in the development of parenting materials.
