Civics Education On Administration's Launch Pad Listen up state and local English Literacy/Civics providers. John Bridgeland, who heads President Bush's national service initiative has a working group to promote civics education classes and standards in public schools, according to the Washington Post. The Post reports that a reference to the growing need for civics education was included in--but ultimately deleted from--President Bush's State of the Union Address because the idea still needed workable steps. Thoughts on the drawing board now may include offering state incentives for adopting civics education, expansion of "service learning," and drafting a civics curriculum that could be delivered online. We're hoping to use the dialogue to inform our work on EL/Civics.
