This year's Workplace Peer Conference will be held in Beckley, West 
Virginia on October 8-10 at the Tamarack Conference Center.  The theme is 
"Workplace Education: Mountains of Opportunity."  Those who attend will 
have a chance to network with peers and share programs, products, or 
methods that work in the workplace.

  Focus topics suggested for this year's conference include: Legal Issues 
and Workplace Education;  The NRS and Workplace Education: How Do We 
Fit?;  WorkKeys/CASAS: Cross-walking the Two Assessments;  Linkages with 
One-Stops;  Return on Investment in Workplace Education;  Workplace 
Education as Economic Development;  Teaching Basic Skills in Context 
Revisited;  Equipped for the Future: The Worker Role Map' Workplace 
Education Instructor Credentialing;  LINCS: The Literacy Information and 
Communication System and Workplace Education;  Workplace ESL;  and 
Work-based Learning Credentialing.  The Workplace Peer Conference 
originated in the southern region, but all workplace educators from 
anywhere are invited to attend.  Following is lodging and other information

Registration for the Seventh Annual Southern Region Workplace Peer Conference
October 8-10, 2003
Tamarack Conference Center
Beckley, West Virginia
Conference Dates:       The conference will begin at 1:30 p.m. on October 8 
and conclude with a luncheon on Friday, October 10.

Location:       The conference is scheduled at the Tamarack Conference 
Center in Beckley, West Virginia.  Tamarack is the nation's first and only 
statewide collection of handmade craft, art and cuisine showcasing The Best 
of West Virginia. From hand-carved furniture to glass, and pottery to 
Appalachian quilts, Tamarack offers only the best. You will also find a 
delectable array of regional specialty foods and products, as well as 
performances, craft demonstrations, and theatre.

The attached maps show the location and approximate distances from various 
cities in the eastern United States.  The nearest major airport is in 
Charleston, WV, a 59 mile drive to Beckley.  For more detailed information,

Registration Fee:       The fee for the conference is $100.00.   Please 
make checks payable to RESA VII.  Registration fees cover all continental 
breakfasts, a reception, dinner, entertainment, breaks, and a luncheon.

















Lodging:        Lodging has been arranged at the Country Inn & Suites 
(304/252-5100).  Suites are available for $92.00/night; rooms are available 
for $82.00/night.  Please indicate that you are with the Southern Region 
Workplace Peer Conference.  All room rates are inclusive of transportation 
to and from the Tamarack Conference center.





Enjoy WV!       Come early and/or stay late and enjoy "The Mountain 
State!"  Outdoor theatre, featuring the renowned "Honey in the Rock" and 
"The Hatfields and the McCoys," the breathtaking New River Gorge, and 
numerous other attractions are but a short drive from Beckley.  We are also 
making arrangements for our West Virginia "Surf & Turf."  After the 
conference, visit an exhibition coal mine or raft some of the best white 
water rapids in the country!  More information about the cost and logistics 
of these opportunities will follow!
