Tanya Shuy

Tanya Shuy joined the staff of the National Institute for Literacy in 2003. She is the Program Analyst for Adolescent Literacy and Learning Disabilities. Her primary program responsibility is Adolescent Literacy. Prior to assuming this position she was a Research Scientist with the National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) where she worked on adolescent literacy, learning disabilities, early childhood assessment, and biliteracy. Her background is in special education, specifically learning disabilities and attention deficit hyperactivity disorder as well as reading. She has worked on reading research projects and has done reading disability testing. She also has written accommodations for college students with learning disabilities as well as counseled those in high school and college on strategies for success in college. Previously she has served on the Special Education Curriculum Advisory Committee for her county school system. She is currently serving as an ex-offcio member of a study group on middle school and high school literacy.

Tanya holds a master's degree in special education from the University of Maryland, a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University and is working towards a Ph.D. Other graduate coursework includes educational psychology and ed policy.
