WHAT'S NEW AT THE INSTITUTE

 
*	Join the Institute in St. Louis at the COABE Conference  
 
Attend one of 10 pre-conference and conference sessions on research and the
use of high quality resources the Institute's LINCS Regional Resource
Centers, Resource Collections, and Discussion Lists Moderators will present
during this year's Commission on Adult Basic Education (COABE) Conference (
http://www.coabeconference.org/). Sessions will run from April 28-30, at the
Hyatt Regency St. Louis and include these topics: 
 
-          Evidence-based Practice: A Workshop for Training Adult Basic
Education, TANF, and One Stop Practitioners and Program Administrators
 
-          Reading Assessment: Assessment Strategies and Reading Profiles
 
-          Overview of a New Research-based Health Literacy Curriculum for
ABE
 
-          National Institute For Literacy's Resource Collections: Free
On-line Research-based Resources
 
-          And more....
 
While at COABE, visit the Institute's Exhibit Booth located at L-3 and L-4
for FREE publications and information you can use. 
 
 
*	Advisory Board Convenes April 24 and 25
 
The Institute's Advisory Board will kick off day one of its two-day meeting
at the U.S. Department of Labor on Thurs., April 24 at 8:30 a.m. Proceedings
on day two will be held at the Institute headquarters. The agenda will
include a discussion of next steps for implementing a strategic plan;
presentation of the Director's Report; a working lunch with the Institute's
Interagency Group (U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and the U.S.
Department of Education); and a briefing from U.S. Department of Labor
representatives. Dr. Richard Wagner is chairman of the 10-member Advisory
Board. The President of the United States appoints Board members. For more
