A message from Vanessa Sheared:

The 51st Adult Education Research Conference (AERC) and the 3rd Annual Western Region Research Conference on the Education of Adults (WRRCEA) will be hosted by Sacramento State from June 3-6, 2010. The AERC conference is held annually and hosted by a University either in the United States or Canada; and the WRRCEA is hosted annually by a campus with an adult education program in the western region of the United States.

You are invited to submit a proposal for presentation and publication focused on research, theory and practices of adult learners. Topics include subjects like:


* race, gender, language, class
* socio-cultural, and political factors
* sexual orientation,
* white racial identity
* identity politics
* social justice
* perspective transformation
* somatic learning
* adult learning and development
* critical theory
* phenomenology
* participatory research
* historical methods
* participatory research
* program planning
* spirituality
* hegemony and marginalization
* critical pedagogy
* critical race theory
* on-line learning
* globilization and internalization
* literacy (ABE/GED, ESL)
* community college and higher education
* corrections
* adult participation in educational activities

Along with hosting the AERC 2010, the College of Continuing Education will also co-host the Third Annual Western Regional Research Conference in Adult Education (June 3- 5), the African Diaspora, Asian Diaspora, Latino/a Diaspora, and the Gay, Lesbian, Queer and Transgendered Pre-Conferences (June 3). These pre-conferences have been held since 1993 prior to the start of the conference. The Pre-conferences began in order to provide an expanded dialogue and conversation among and between individuals interested in conducting research in these areas. Pre-conference proposals are submitted directly to the pre-conference planners for these events.
