Hello Bertie and all,
Bertie: "my bad" (isn't it wonderful to behold language as a living organism in full bloom, continuous change, and variation?). I failed to make a proper transition from your post to mine.
Here at Maui Memorial Medical Center, some nurses dress alike, whether male or female. This is what I would call "unisex" attire that doesn't make a statement in my eyes (at least none I am concerned about).
Yes, on the level of attire in and of itself, you are absolutely correct. That said, on Maui, if you include some Pacific Islanders, some men do actually wear dresses amongst themselves or in informal settings. Of course, a dress is not a dress, depending on the cultural backdrop.

Sorry Michael, I don't understand your comments. My comment was just that in North American society, which I know best, women are permitted more leeway in terms of dress. This is true in every sector of North American society; not merely the corporate sector. For example, female nurses wear scrubs, but I've never seen a male nurse in a dress. Female teachers wear skirts and pants suits, but I'v never seen a male teacher in a dress or shirt and skirt.
Best.
Bertie

Hello Bertie and all,
So women can dress in a masculine fashion in a corporate setting, but men cannot dress in a femine manner. You are right, Bertie. That said, is the corporate domain the one we should single out? In it, there is, in my opinion, an almost surreal effort underway to emasculate women.
That's a world I don't wish to participate in, much less identify with.
Michael
