Hello --
The next issue of The Change Agent is called, "Coming Home from War."
I
am writing to see if anyone has knowledge of pockets of information
that
I might explore that might shed light on how we can make the adult ed.
classroom a more fruitful environment for veterans. This issue is not
just focused on U.S. veterans but on anyone who has been through war
and
for friends and family members of veterans as well. Our classrooms are
full of refugees from war and, increasingly, they will have family
members of Iraq veterans and veterans themselves. So, I am looking for
articles that will resonate for students in the classroom and for
teachers who are dealing with what it means to have veterans, war
refugees, and family members of veterans as students.
Some concrete questions:
* Is anyone interested in adapting some of the great work done by
Jenny
Horsman around PTSD and learning? (I am also writing directly to
her...)
* Would you like to write about your own experience dealing with PTSD
in the classroom? Do you know anyone else who would like to write on
this topic?
* Do you know of student writings on war or returning from war or
being
a family member of a war veteran?
* Are there NIFL discussions I should be aware of?
* Are there any other resources you know of that might be helpful?
Thanks for any thoughts on this.
Cynthia
