Teaching and Assessing with EFF

 Date:  January 9 through 13, 2006

 Guests:   Aaron Kohring, Peggy McGuire, Regie Stites, and EFF Center
Staff and Consultants.

 Aaron Kohring is a Research Associate at the Center for Literacy
Studies, University of Tennessee, and is Coordinator of the Equipped for
the Future Websites and Moderator of the NIFL Content Standards
Discussion List.

 Peggy McGuire, M.A., is a Senior Research Associate and Equipped for
the Future National Consultant at the Center for Literacy Studies, The
University of Tennessee.

 Regie Stites, Ph.D., is Program Manager of the Literacy and Lifelong
Learning, Center for Education Policy, SRI International in Menlo Park,
CA.  Dr. Stites assists EFF in planning assessment development and
validation processes.

 Our discussion will focus on the EFF Assessment Framework, and how EFF
assessments are developed for classroom use.

 Thought-provokers:

 1.  Pick any EFF standard, read its definition, and imagine what it
would look like if you were actually assessing the application of the
integrated skill process described in the standard's definition. 

 2.  How often do you feel a need to look for evidence that learning has
happened?  How does the nature of the evidence you are looking for
change as you look for learning within the space of one class session,
one week, one week, one course, one year, and so on.
