[EnglishLanguage] preliterate parents

These sites and materials also require literacy at significant levels.
The question, I believe, was about PRE-literate parents-- this means
NO literacy--typically speaking a language that is not written. It is
a puzzle how to present them with materials for this when they cannot
read or possibly even make sense of pictures (preliterate populations
have been found to interpret one dimensional information differently
than literate persons do.) Perhaps emphasis should be put on
developing the preliteracy skills of BOTH parents and children through
songs, rhymes, picture identification, etc. --in other words, hearing
the structure of English. Robin Schwarz

The LEP materials do seem to require quite a high level of profieciency
in
English literacy - you might find the materials on these sites more
appropriate for parents who are new to English. They are simple,
straightforward and should only require minor modifications for a US
audience.

Good luck
