[EnglishLanguage] Celebrating Black History Month February 2006 (longer)

This is in reply to Tom S's post about Black History month--almost over, now.

I have in front of me a book, "The Gullah--People and their African
heritage." Septima Poinsette Clark was Gullah. I believe very strongly in knowing
about folks' background, what groups they came from, and how they got to
this country. It breeds respect.

If anybody else out there has comparable books to suggest, particularly about
African-Americans, I would really appreciate hearing about them.
