I totally agree with Elsa's comments. Another UK research document worth a
look is the Research Report A Systematic Review of the Research. Literature
on the Use of Phonics in the. Teaching of Reading and Spelling by Prof Greg
Brooks at all for the Department of Education and Skills
www.dfes.gov.uk/research/data/uploadfiles/RR711_.pdf which exposes the
weaknesses in all the research used to assert the superiority of one method
for teaching reading. Also I would point out that research on dyslexia -
which encompasses a range of specific reading difficulties - advocates
multi-sensory approaches.

As regards the comment on NSCALL papers - perhaps the filtering process
needs to include criteria to ensure that any research on the website is
based on robust evidence.
