Hello all, The website www.interventioncentral.org has excellent CBM probes to monitor progress of reading. Probes include areas such as: Emerging Skills: Literacy/Phonological Awareness, Letter Identification/English: Uppercase, Lowercase, Mixed Case; Dolch Word Lists/English: Pre-Primer, Primer, 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, Complete List; Emerging Skills: Literacy/Spanish Probes Letter Identification/Spanish: Uppercase, Lowercase, Mixed Case Syllable Sequences/Spanish: Uppercase, Lowercase, Mixed Case Word Lists/Spanish: Early 1st Grade, Late 1st Grade, 2nd Grade The website gives complete directions for using the probes and has many, many other resources for beginning readers. It is certainly one of my favorites! Hope this helps. >>> "Missy Slaathaug" <mslaathaug at midco.net> 11/27/06 11:38 AM >>> Hi Neil, I looked through my favorites and came up with a few to recommend. Good luck with your learners! This is the Internet Picture Dictionary, which is a good basic site for vocab practice. http://pdictionary.com/ This one looks good for all sorts of grammar lessons and vocab, etc. I haven't used it, but it looks user friendly and practical. http://www.englishpage.com/ This is a very cool website for native speakers who are low-level readers and working to improve their reading skills. I don't know the level of your non-native speakers, but perhaps this site might work for them. http://www.literacynet.org/cnnsf/ This one is a sort of clearinghouse with all sorts of links for all sorts of exercises and all sorts of learners! http://autoenglish.en.wanadoo.es/amigos.html#Spanish More English listening activities: http://www.elllo.org/ Everything that the national organization TESOL puts out is really good - here is a clearinghouse link for lots of sites: http://iteslj.org/links/ Missy Slaathaug ESL Instructor/State ESL Specialist The Right Turn 124 East Dakota Avenue Pierre, SD 57501 605-773-4755 mslaathaug at midco.net "Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing." We have had a family from Russia move in to our system this year (with two elementary age children), and although we are providing resources for the kids (we have an ESL teacher providing services as well), I have been asked if I could find some software or web-based resource recommendations to assist their parents. Thanks in advance for any advice or recommendations! Neil Neil Rigole Director, Instructional Technology Monroe County Schools Forsyth, GA rigolen at monroe.k12.ga.us www.monroe.k12.ga.us
