We recently created a Native Country quilt with our students. We bought a kit from Oriental Trading Company that allows you to decorate squares of fabric and then string them all together with ribbons. One of our teachers printed flags and names of the various countries represented by our students onto iron-on transfer paper; we ironed a name and its flag on each square, and then students signed their names on the square for their country. (We had to print 2 squares for Mexico and Guatemala!) It was a great activity because it got the students talking about what the symbols and colors on their flags represent. And now we have a great wall-hanging in our learning center. It's always been a hit. You can then string the cranes and decorate the school with them too. -----Original Message----- From: englishlanguage-bounces at nifl.gov [mailto:englishlanguage-bounces at nifl.gov] On Behalf Of Ginger Dempsey, LVNRV Sent: Tuesday, December 12, 2006 11:11 AM To: englishlanguage at nifl.gov Subject: [EnglishLanguage 871] International Potluck Ideas We are hosting an International Potluck for our ESOL students and tutors and are in need of some ideas for games/activities.
