[EnglishLanguage 1185] Re: Filling out Citizenship Papers

Just like doing taxes, filling out the citizenship form N-400 depends on
your situation, how complicated your life is and how organized your
paperwork is.

Our class usually can read through and ask questions about the form in
about three hours. The stumbling blocks could be:

If you have lived many places
If you have worked many jobs
If you have had several marriages, especially if you don't have marriage
certificates or divorce papers
If your spouse has had several marriages and doesn't have paperwork
If you have had children and you don't know where they are
If you have had any trouble with the law and don't have paperwork
regarding its resolution

In some of the above situations, you must go to the county recorder or
law enforcement agency and request copies of your paperwork. I have
known people who were running into problems because they either had not
gotten properly divorced or could not get paperwork on really old
marriages.

Hello everyone,

I am embarking on a new class.

Does anyone know how long it takes to fill out the application for
citizenship? We are planning on having them fill it out first and then
hold
a class that will start a month later - so they are closer to the
interview
when the class ends!

Did you need help in having them fill it out or could you do it
yourself?
Thanks so much! Any information you can share regarding citizenship
classes/preparation of paperwork would be of most help! Thanks!!!

Ronna

Dear subscribers,

Cynthia Shermeyer has forwarded notes from some TESOL sessions which are
attached here. If you can't access these, please email
cindysherm at comcast.net off the list and I guess she can send these in an
email to you.

Thanks again, Cindy for taking the time to write up these notes for
those who weren't able to attend the TESOL conference.
