[EnglishLanguage 1714] Accent Reduction

Am I really reading some of these posts correctly? I
hope not. I would hope that as a society we'd some day
move beyond these essentialist notions of how people
should speak, behave, etc. Instead of accent reduction
has anyone considered exercise to improve listening
skills? Don't get me wrong, I know that there are
people who have extremely thick accents...so much so
that they can be difficult to understand. But their
frustration is often fueled by our inability to be
patient and respectful. Too often, we [Americans, if
you will] are quick to suggest that all "immigrants"
need to change... But at the heart of it are we not
all immigrants?
