[FamilyLiteracy] educational attainment of adult immigrantsLynda Terrill lterrill at cal.orgSun Mar 5 10:38:39 EST 2006
Hi, Laurie, There is some specific data available from the United States Census Bureau regarding the educational attainment of the foreign-born population. If you go to the statistics page of the CAELA Web site at http://www.cal.org/caela/research/statistics.html there are direct links to some of the relevant pages. On the stats page there are also links to some other sites that give some information that might be useful (e.g., Migration Information Center, National Center for Education Statistics, Pew Hispanic Center). Nonetheless, I think finding accurate data that gives you the information you need might be difficult. In some cases, the undocumented immigrants may not have been included in the data collection. From my own experience, I've found that adult learner self-report may not always be accurate. At least partly that was because the question about education on the intake form I was using wasn't particularly clear. Best wishes, and if you find the stat you are looking for, please post to the list. I am trying to determine what percentage of our parents may have an elementary level education or below.
